Welcome to Travis County ARES (TCARES)
We meet at 7:00 PM on every 4th Tuesday at the UT Applied Research Laboratories (ARL Labs) at 10000 Burnet Rd at the corner of Rutland. The organization uses two repeaters, 147.36 (tone 131.8) is primary and is the location for weekly nets. The 146.94 repeater (tone 107.2) is a backup and is also used for weather nets. In the event both of these are unavailable, use 146.58 simplex, no tone. Training nets occur on the 147.36 repeater at 7:00 each week on Sunday night. See Weekly Nets for more.
This group is a county level organizational unit of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), a part of the ARRL. ARES groups can be created at the county level in each division and section of the ARRL. Our group is sponsored by the Austin Amateur Radio Club. We consist of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. The group is headquarted in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Every licensed amateur in the local area, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization, is eligible for membership in ARES. We have monthly meetings, training, activations as well as weekly voice and data nets to keep up our skills. Please explore this site for more information about what we do and how we do it. You can also print the New hams ARES handout

Print out this placard and keep it by your weather radio. It has symbols and details about the terms used during watches, warnings and other NWS alerts.
Here are the SAME codes for each Texas county. They are used to set up your weather radio. |

All contact, skills, training and mode/equipment records are kept in the Member Database. Please create and maintain your contact record here. Members should fill in each tab so that we have a complete record of what equipment you have available, how and when you are available for drills and emergency response, and what specifc training you bring to each deployment.
This database is the formal record of your membership in TCARES. It is not the only requirement to be an active member but your membership in this organization is not complete without the database record.
Members should review and save an update to their record at least every 3 months. |
