Emergency Status

The City of Austin, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) located is at CTECC, on the East end of the old  Austin  airport grounds. The building is a joint operation between the City of Austin and Travis County. It hosts Police, Sheriff, EMS, Fire, 911 and 311 dispatch. HSEM has a current conditions page.  Data about road closures, power outages, severe weather events and similar are updated frequently during periods of CTECC activation. Of special interest are the many low water crossings in Austin. These have been and continue to be deadly when flooded.

At the state level, the Texas Division of Emergency Management is a special operation housed at Deparment of Public (DPS) headquarters in Austin. Formerly known as the Governors Department of Emergency Management, the group is the state level authority for emergency operations. Several status pages are very important during emergencies. The Current Disaster Declarations Situation Reports are pages often needed. Watch this site for updates during hurricane risk or major forest fire events.

Texas Army MARS cooperates closely with TDEM and provides vital HF communications state-wide during emergencies.

The National Weather Service maintains several levels of hazard notifications. The National Hurricane Center regularly updates progress on storms and overall forecasts for the season. The Storm Prediction Center has listings of current watches and warnings. Our local weather office NWS in New Braunsfels, has details of local area weather.
