Welcome to Travis County ARES (TCARES)

This group is a county-level unit of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), a part of the division and section structure of the ARRL‘s field organization. We consist of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. The group headquarters is in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Every licensed amateur in the local area, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization, is eligible for membership in ARES. We have monthly meetings, training, activation as well as weekly voice and data nets to keep up our skills.

We meet at 7:30 PM on every 4th Tuesday. Until we’re clear of the current pandemic, we’ll continue to meet virtually via a Zoom call. In pre-pandemic times, we’d usually meet at the ARL Auditorium, 10000 Burnet Road between US-183 and Braker Lane in Austin.

The organization uses three main frequencies:

Primary: 147.36 repeater (+ / 131.8) is the designated tactical net and the location for our weekly nets.

Alternate: 146.94 repeater (- / 107.2) is the designated resource net and the location for our weather nets.

Contingency: 146.58 simplex (no tone) if both repeaters are unavailable
