Welcome to Travis County ARES (TCARES)

We meet at 7:00 PM on every 4th Tuesday usually at the ARL Auditorium, 10000 Burnet Road in Austin. This is between US183 and Braker. You are required to sign in and out at the guard desk. The organization uses two repeaters, 147.36 (tone 131.8) is primary and is the location for weekly nets. The 146.94 repeater (tone 107.2) is a backup and is also used for weather nets. In the event, both of these are unavailable, use 146.58 simplex, no tone. Training nets occur on the 147.36 repeater at 7:00 each week on Sunday night. See Weekly Nets for more info.

TCARES members with assigned badges for CTECC will not be able to check out or use those badges any longer. Some electronic reconfigurations have been done and each user must now be escorted by the guard or directed to the large situation room for admission into the ham radio room by someone already present.

This group is a county level organizational unit of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), a part of the ARRL. ARES groups can be created at the county level in each division and section of the ARRL. We consist of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. The group headquarters is in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Every licensed amateur in the local area, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization, is eligible for membership in ARES. We have monthly meetings, training, activations as well as weekly voice and data nets to keep up our skills. Please explore this site for more information about what we do and how we do it. You can also print the New hams ARES handout
