Voice Net

TCARES holds a voice training net each Sunday evening at 1900 (7:00pm local). During the net, we practice proper radio techniques and share important information on upcoming events. Please program these frequencies into your radio, as the net could change at any time.

Frequencies Used

Primary Repeater (Weekly Nets)

146.940 (-107.2 tone)

Alternate Repeater: 146.860 (-146.2 tone)

Contingency Repeater: 147.360 (+131.8 tone)

Emergency Simplex: 146.58 (no tone)

Net Failover

If you tune to a repeater and expect to hear a net and do not. Please check other frequencies (wait about 1 minute to hear traffic).

Net Control Stations (NCS), please check the table above for your scheduled nights. You are backup NCS for the same week number for the month following the month you are scheduled for NCS duty, e.g. if you are NCS on the third week for even-numbered months, you are backup NCS on the third week for odd-numbered months.

Backup NCS: If your NCS does not start the net on-time, please fill your role and start the net and ask for another backup. If you’re one of the NCS operators and the scheduled and backup NCSs don’t appear, please fill in if you can.

Net Control Availability

If you won’t be available on your scheduled night, please let your backup NCS know in advance (as much notice as you can), or get one of the other experienced NCS to fill in.

Net Controller Recommended Setup

In order to serve as a Net Control Operator, TCARES recommends the following:

  • 25W Mobile Radio (minimum)
  • Gain Antenna

Then potential net controllers should have a (1) check into at least 3 out of 4 meetings per month, (2) submit 3 consecutive logs (see template below) with at least 95% accuracy, and (3) can transmit and receive on all repeaters with full quieting.
