South Texas ARES

Our ARES organization in Travis county is a part of the South Texas ARES Section of the West Gulf Division of the ARRL. Travis County is in District 7 of the South Texas Section.

The new organizational structure of ARES contains elements of both district centered structure and roll-up to the entire State of Texas. New centralized disaster response involving all ARES resources in Texas is evolving around the Texas DPS TDEMCommunications Coordination Group (CCG). The CCG is normally housed at Camp Mabry in Austin. It has the power to request deployment teams from various ARES organizations state-wide. ARES leadership met in Austin at Summerfest-09 and agreed to cooperate and staff CCG needs to form these deployment groups. Whenever the State Operations Center stands up for disaster readiness, the CCG likewise becomes active at Camp Mabry and acts as a central point of coordination between Texas governmental groups and private response resources such as ARES.
